MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL!!!

It's been a busy fall into winter. Numerous craft shows, special orders and, I won't lie, some time for goofing off.

I have been having fun playing around with ripple pattern berets. Have done some solids just to start and get the feel for it, but of course as you all well know I have to mix it up...changing yarns, colors and textures every few rows or every row. Below are some of berets:

Another Great Interpretation of the Freeform Freestyle Helmet Hat

I love to see the hats people make from my tutorial patterns. A ravelry member, Izzyinspired, sent me pictures of her interpretation of the freeform freestyle helmet hat she made for her daughter. Izzyinpired reports "It is her absolute favorite hat, no matter how many more I make her….she always insists on wearing that one!"

You can see from the pic below, Izzyinspired's daughter loves her hat and she looks fabulous wearing the beautiful hat her mom made for her....and that is one handsome pooch the young lady is playing with.

Freeform Crochet and Knit Berets

Have been working on freeform crochet and knit berets of late. Below are pictures of two of berets which are already finished. They do take a little longer to make, but it is interesting to see the outcome of each hat. The first hat was done in various shades of whites, off whites and some light grey.

Both of these hats have been sold and are no longer available. I will be posting pics of two new freeform berets.

2nd ANNUAL NEW JERSEY FIBER ARTS FESTIVAL

The 2nd annual New Jersey Fiber Arts Festival will be held on October 1 and 2, 2010. Last year was a great beginning festival and I'm looking forward to this second year.

I will be teaching Beginner Freeform Crochet and Knit on the first day of the festival, October 1, at 3 pm. You can register online for the class, cost is $35.00 plus a $2.00 material fee. Information on the class is available here.

I will also have a booth space on the vendor floor and will have some terrific new hats available, as well as the Freeform Crochet Hats with earflaps, the Helmet hats.

Fingerless Glove Pattern Now Available

The gloves have a bobble cuff which you can make to compliment your version of the Freeform Crochet Hats. No seams are required to make these fingerless gloves, they are worked in the round and work up fast.

Just listed some new hats on the woolmountain etsy shop

The hat below received an honorable mention at the 2009 Crochet Design Contest at the CGOA Chain Link Convention in Buffalo in August 2009

This hat was done in one yarn, it was such a nice yarn I wanted to see how it would work as the helmet style hat with out multiple color changes.

Below is a really colorful hat; and made for an extra large head, 24 inch to 25 inch; that's the hubby modeling the hat, which is why we are getting the back view...he's not fond of having his picture taken.

Another year and another terrific exhibition by the fiber artists of the International Freeform Guild (International Freeform Group on Yahoo). This years theme was: Four Seasons. I have also posted about this on my zanygrey blog

The 2009 show includes 52 freeform fiber artists. These artist come from all over the world. The work is fabulous and ranges from freeform scrumbles to garments, to dolls, to landscapes.

Stop by and the International Freeform Guild's site and look for Four Seasons and click to enter. You can click on the individual pictures to go to that particular artist's work or click on Index by Name and view each artist's work. While you are on the site please visit all of the previous exhibitions if you haven't seen them yet.

I want to extend a big thank you to Myra Wood of Myra Wood Originals. Myra once again organized this exhibition and put it together, she does wonderful work and we are so grateful for her efforts.

A REALLY SPECIAL HAT MODEL

I just love it when I hear from people who have purchased my Freeform/Freestyle Crochet Hat with Earflaps pattern. I'm even more thrilled when people send me pictures of their completed hats.

Robin from Florida did just that. She sent me a picture of her completed hat being modeled by a very special person...Bobby! Bobby is Robin's daughter's boyfriend and considered a part of the family. He was so kind to model the hat and to agree to allow me to post his picture here. I think he looks great with the hat. Robin did a terrific job on her hat, I'm so thrilled.

Now before you look at the picture, while talking with Robin I found out something very interesting about Bobby. He is a dog lover. You all know how much I love dogs, however I never heard of the breed that Bobby has: American Bullnese....absolutely adorable. Take a look at Bobby's site American Bullnese Association and look at the pictures of these adorable pooches.

2008 International Freeform Fiberart Guild Challenge

Just to let you know “the good news”. You might remember me mentioning that I was making a freeform crochet piece and it was a “big secret”.

Well, it’s no longer a big secret. The challenge called the 2008 International Freefrom Fiberart Guild Challenge, “Through Our Eyes is now online at:

This beautiful presentation was put together by Myra Woods and represents pieces by Myra and 34 other fiber artists, all members of the International Freeform Fiberart Guild.

And Myra came up with an added surprise, not only is the exhibit online for all to see, but there is a companion book available for purchase, hardcover or softcover, which includes photos of each piece and either a poem or writing for each piece.

One hundred percent of the profits, that is a $10.00 donation per book, will go to the Women for Women International. You can learn more about this dedicated group at:

NEW!!! Freeform Crochet Cuffs

I have posted these two new Freeform Crochet Cuffs, more to come.....

Freeform crochet wrist cuff, shades of pink.

The body of this cuff is made with a pink cotton/acrylic blend, in a freeform crochet lace motif. The surface crochet and slight ruffled edge is made with 100 percent pure silk yarn.

Accented with taupe glass pearl beads which pick up a pink tint from the pink yarn. Two small clusters of pink glass beads and a some iridescent pink/purple/blue seed beads.

In the center of the wrist cuff is a large 1 1/4 inch mother of pearl flower with a taupe glass pearl in the center.

All beads are handsewn.

Freeform crochet wrist cuff, pale blue and light green.

The body of this cuff is made with a blue cotton yarn in a freeform crochet lace motif. The surface crochet and slight ruffled edge is made with a cotton/acrylic blend.

Accented with silver glass pearl beads which pick up a blue tint from the blue yarn. One clusters of the silver pearl glass beads have two of the iridescent pink/purple/blue seed beads sewn into the cluster.

All beads are handsewn.

Cuff closes with a white plastic iridescent button. The button can be placed in any open hole of the lace work to adjust the bracelet.

Fits a size 7 1/2 wrist when buttoned into the edging loop; will fit a smaller wrist when buttoned into one of the body loops.

Actual size unbutton, 8 inches long(at the longest point, ruffle to ruffle and approximately 2 3/4 wide.

I was inspired to add elongated earflaps to some of my hats after requests from buyers and after falling in love with how another Etsy artist used attached scarves on her hats. That artist, Lisa W. of cerublu, is another freeform artist who makes truly wonderful hats, shawls and wrist warmers among other things and who also has an etsy shop, name cerublu.
